The CFMS is an official member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). The IFMSA is an independent, non-governmental and non-political federation of medical students’ associations throughout the world. The IFMSA has 92 national member organizations from 88 countries, representing over 1 million medical students worldwide. The IFMSA is recognized internationally by such bodies as the World Medical Association, the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations agencies including UNICEF and UNHCR, with whom it collaborates regularly.
Through our membership with the IFMSA, we are able to offer over 100 clinical and research exchanges to Canadian medical students. We are also able to connect with student leaders from around the world through resource-sharing, online forums, and in-person collaboration at IFMSA meetings. The National Officers and VP-Global Health act as the official liaisons between the IFMSA, but other GHP members and outside students have the opportunity to attend the IFMSA meetings in March and August of each year. Applications to attend these meetings are available in October and March, respectively.
