Welcome to the Global Health Program of the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS-GHP). The Global Health Program was created to provide medical students with global exchange opportunities, awareness of global health issues and an opportunity to exchange ideas and network with students across the country.
With involvement of roughly 55 students from the CFMS’s 14 member schools, we operate locally, nationally and internationally. Together we develop and implement global health initiatives in the areas of global health education, advocacy, environment, partnership, reproductive and sexual health, and human rights and peace. Moreover, we coordinate close to 100 international clinical and research exchanges for Canadian medical students.
The CFMS-GHP offers the following to Canadian medical students:
Services:
• Raises awareness amongst medical students on issues of global health
• Provides medical students with meaningful overseas opportunities
• Facilitates the development and continued improvement of grassroots initiatives
• Helps medical students interested in global health networking at a national and
global level
Communication:
• Facilitates the dissemination of information regarding global health opportunities to
all Canadian medical students via email, web access and hard copy publications
• Facilitates, initiates and contributes to national and international discussions on
global health issues
Representation:
• Represents Canadian medical students to the IFMSA and all of the IFMSA standing
committees
• Attends meetings/conferences of related national organizations with the purpose of
seeking and sharing mutual resources
• Attends sub-national/local activities with the purpose of marketing our program and
sharing ideas
• Develops and maintains partnerships with local, national and global organizations
with the purpose of seeking and sharing mutual resources, ideas and opportunities
